African Diaspora Genome Database
At the Cobb Research Laboratory, we are well underway in developing a fully documented genomic database of African-descended peoples of the transatlantic and Red Sea diasporas. This data includes human and oral microbiome samples from African-descended individuals from the Americas as well as from the Arabian Peninsula. As we fill in any missing communities, we hope to develop a representative portrayal of the magnitude of genomic diversity and similarity within these disaporian communities. These data will be invaluable in later applied genomic analyses (e.g., gene X environment interactions, proteomics, genomic entropy studies) and increasing the possibility of precision medicine.
