Genetics and Genomics of the New York African Burial Ground

Researchers at the University of Copenhagen’s National Museum of Natural History of Denmark (pictured) will collaborate with the Cobb Research Laboratory to investigate the genomics of a subsample of 20 individuals from the New York African Burial Ground. The research is expected to take about six to ten months and will entail use of a new DNA extraction technique that does not damage the bones under study. It is hoped that the results of this pilot study will supplement and expand the previous genetic studies done about 10 years ago.
